Athens’ ‘High Street’ Ermou 15th Most Expensive in the World

Ermou, Athens’ best known “high street”, ranks 15th in the international

Ermou, Athens’ best known “high street”, ranks 15th in the international ranking of the most expensive shopping thoroughfares, according to Cushman & Wakefield.

The survey firm said rents along Ermou increased by 5% in 2025 on the back of a stronger presence of international brands and growing demand.

The 35th edition of the “Main Streets Across the World” report recorded some general changes in the international list, while also reporting fluctuations in rental prices that determine the commercial value of “high streets” in major cities around the world.

Retailing and Ermou

Cushman & Wakefield’s report on the Greek retail market, published a few days earlier, reported that the Economic Climate Index in Greece improved in the third quarter of 2025, recovering the losses of the previous quarter, and despite the decline recorded in September.

Consumer confidence, however, remained at very negative levels and well below the Eurozone average, although pessimism about household finances began to ebb.

According to the Athens-based Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE), the decline is due to weaker expectations in most business sectors, while the retail sector showed signs of renewed optimism after the summer.
