Kronospan buys gantry-craned handymax vessel Spanaco Star
The Lichtenstein-headquartered wood-based panels and products manufacturer Kronospan has purchased the fully box open hatch gantry craned handymax general cargo vessel Spanaco Star.
The acquisition has been done to enhance the company’s logistics capabilities and in order to ensure a stable and cost-effective transport route for the company’s wood-based panels and lumber, as the company states in its release.
By integrating transoceanic shipping, the company wants to eliminate logistics uncertainties and build a more sustainable supply chain.
Kronospan mentions that in each voyage the Spanaco Star will transport 45,000 cubic meters of wood products, supported by a dedicated crew of 23 people onboard the vessel.
