CLdN acquires Samskip’s UK & Ireland container and multimodal operations

CLdN has signed an agreement to acquire Samskip’s quay-to-quay and door-to-door freight business between continental Europe and the UK & Ireland. The deal covers container shipping services from Rotterdam to the UK ports of Belfast, Blyth, Grangemouth, Hull, and Tilbury, and to the Irish ports of Cork, Dublin, and Waterford.

These services handle over 1,000 port calls annually. They serve a broad customer base, including blue-chip consumer goods manufacturers. The acquisition also includes Samskip’s door-to-door cargo services connecting the UK and Ireland with continental Europe. CLdN will take over more than 5,000 leased multimodal cargo units. These include 45ft pallet-wide containers, refrigerated containers, curtain-side containers, 40- and 45ft flat racks, and 40ft high-cube refrigerated containers.

After regulatory approval, CLdN will continue current services seamlessly. The deal also transfers supplier agreements for road haulage, rail and barge connections, vessel sharing, and port operations.

The acquisition strengthens CLdN’s short-sea container shipping. It complements the company’s roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) and lift-on/lift-off (LoLo) services. The transaction expands CLdN’s door-to-door multimodal network. It increases fleet capacity and improves reach, especially between the UK & Ireland and Central and Eastern Europe.

The deal is subject to regulatory and competition approvals. Financial terms have not been disclosed.
