Wärtsilä wins LNG bunkering vessel systems order
Wärtsilä Gas Solutions will supply Cargo Handling and Fuel Gas Supply systems for two new LNG bunkering vessels under construction in China.
The 20,000 m³ vessels are being built at Zhejiang XinLe Shipbuilding for a Hong Kong-based owner. Wärtsilä booked the order in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The contract reinforces the company’s position in small-scale LNG applications. LNG continues to gain ground as a marine fuel, offering a transitional solution between conventional fuels and future low- and zero-carbon alternatives. This trend is driving demand for efficient bunkering tonnage.
Wärtsilä said its cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems support safe and efficient LNG transfer operations. Barry Yang, General Manager Sales, China at Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, noted that LNG remains central to advancing greener shipping and that the company’s systems provide a proven and flexible solution for bunkering vessels serving LNG-fuelled ships.
The scope of supply includes system engineering and design, LNG cargo handling and fuel gas supply equipment, and integrated control and monitoring systems for the entire cargo operation.
Equipment deliveries are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. The vessels are expected to be delivered in the second half of 2027.
