Cochin Shipyard and Drydocks World Join Forces to Establish Innovative Ship Repair and Offshore Facilities in India

Cochin Shipyard limited (CSL) and Drydocks World, part of DP World, are teaming up to create ship repair and offshore fabrication centers throughout India. This partnership is set to enhance teh country’s maritime capabilities, aligning with broader initiatives like the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

The collaboration was officially established with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Mumbai last month. This event coincided with the visit of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s Crown Prince and UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister.

In attendance were Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, CEO of DP World, alongside Madhu S. Nair from Cochin Shipyard Limited. A delegation from Drydocks world visited CSL in Kochi on May 1-2, led by their CEO Captain Rado Antolovic.

During this visit, they toured key facilities at CSL such as the main yard and the newly opened 310-metre dry dock. They also checked out the International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) and Marine Engineering Training Institute. The focus was on kickstarting collaborative efforts at ISRF in Kochi while planning future expansions across other Indian regions.

This partnership aims to infuse global best practices into India’s maritime sector while boosting capabilities for ship repair and offshore fabrication services. Madhu S. Nair highlighted that this visit marks a meaningful step toward realizing their shared goals in ship repair innovation.

Captain Rado Antolovic emphasized that merging international expertise with local knowledge will foster a robust ecosystem for maritime services in India. Both companies are optimistic that their joint efforts will help position India as a leading player in global maritime services by leveraging cutting-edge technology along with skilled labor forces.

In essence, this collaboration not only promises growth for both organizations but also sets the stage for India to emerge as an influential hub within the global shipping industry landscape—much like how Singapore has transformed its port facilities into one of Asia’s busiest trade routes through strategic partnerships and investments over recent decades.
