Sengkang-Punggol LRT System Undergoes Testing Phase
SINGAPORE: SBS Transit has officially received the first two out of a total of 25 new two-car Automated Guideway Transit sets from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for the Sengkang-Punggol Light Rapid Transit system.
The innovative, rubber-tyred, driverless trains are currently undergoing testing and are set to welcome passengers in the third quarter of this year. These new models will gradually replace older single-car units to accommodate the growing population’s transit needs.
On May 9, the operator shared that these modern light metro trainsets were ordered in two phases—17 units in 2022 and eight more in 2023. They boast a stylish design featuring energy-efficient LED lights, redesigned seating for enhanced comfort, and roof-mounted air conditioning for a cooler ride experience.
