Royal CaribbeanS latest marvel, the Star of the Seas, is on its way to becoming the largest cruise ship globally. It recently kicked off its sea trials, a meaningful milestone ahead of its commercial launch set for August 2025.On May 19, this colossal ship departed from Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland for its inaugural sea journey.As the second vessel in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class lineup, it slightly surpasses its sibling, Icon of the Seas.

Weighing in at around 250,800 gross tons and stretching nearly 1,200 feet long with an remarkable 20 decks,Star of the Seas can accommodate up to 7,600 individuals—2,350 of whom are crew members.These sea trials are crucial as they represent one of the final phases before delivery. Over several days ahead,more than 2,000 experts across engineering and naval architecture will be onboard to rigorously test all essential systems.

Currently cruising through the baltic Sea according to AIS tracking data, this giant has already hit speeds reaching up to 25 knots during testing sessions.The journey began back in Febuary 2023 with a ceremonial steel-cutting event. Fast forward ten months: after laying down the keel—complete with good luck coins following maritime tradition—the vessel was floated out in October and had its engines fired up by February 2025. by April it received LNG fuel for cleaner energy use.

Onc these trials wrap up successfully, Star of the Seas will head back for final touches like interior design work and stocking supplies. This phase ensures that everything from dining venues to entertainment spots is ready for guests’ enjoyment.

A handover ceremony will follow between Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku shipyard once everything is finalized—a symbolic moment marking official ownership transfer.

As per company updates earlier this month when construction was reported at about 96% completion level; engineers were already on-site prepping for these critical tests well before departure day arrived!

Mark your calendars! The grand debut voyage kicks off on August 31st from Port Canaveral in Florida after three preview sailings scheduled on August dates: specifically August 20th ,23rd ,and finally wrapping up on August27th . Expect stops at popular destinations like Costa Maya and Cozumel (Mexico) along with roatan (Honduras).Star of the Seas promises family-friendly fun featuring eight themed neighborhoods alongside seven pools plus what’s touted as being both tallest & fastest waterslides found anywhere at sea! With an array comprising twenty-six restaurants plus eighteen bars/lounges onboard—it truly feels like a floating resort catering perfectly across generations!

Additionally noteworthy? This beauty marks Royal Caribbean’s third LNG-powered vessel designed specifically for year-round operations outta Port Canaveral alternating between Eastern/Western Caribbean routes—all including visits over at their private Bahamian paradise known as Perfect day at Coco Cay!
