Menzies Aviation Unveils New Shelters for Genocide Survivors in Rwanda

A recent publication by Menzies Aviation reveals the launch of ten newly built homes in Musha, Rwanda, aimed at supporting survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. This initiative is a collaboration with IBUKA, a local non-profit organization dedicated to helping these communities.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in Musha, Rwamagana District, and was attended by key figures from Menzies Aviation, government officials, representatives from IBUKA, and members of the Rwandan aviation sector. The event was not just about unveiling new homes; it became a heartfelt party of resilience and community spirit as survivors and their families gathered to honor this meaningful milestone. The beneficiaries were carefully selected through collaboration between IBUKA and local authorities to ensure that those most in need received support.

In addition to constructing homes, Menzies Aviation has also contributed financially to Community-Based Health Insurance (CBHI), known locally as Mutuelle de Santé. This funding is crucial for ensuring that survivors have ongoing access to essential healthcare services for themselves and their families.

This housing project aligns with IBUKA’s broader “Musha Survivors village” initiative—a program focused on recovery and reconciliation that aims to restore dignity while promoting healing among survivors. It’s all about building a supportive habitat where individuals can thrive together.

the partnership between Menzies Aviation and IBUKA underscores their dedication not only during commemorative events but also through continuous support for local communities over time.

Philipp joeinig, Group CEO of Menzies Aviation expressed his sentiments: “Attending the opening ceremony was truly humbling; these homes represent more than just structures—they embody hope, belonging, and dignity. We take pride in contributing positively to the communities we serve. A big thank you goes out to IBUKA along with our local partners who made this vision possible.”
