Revolutionary Sensor Introduced for Real-Time Gearbox Health Assessment

As reported by Lenord+Bauer, a leading name in component technology, the company has broadened its lineup of sensor solutions designed for monitoring the condition of onboard machinery.

Their CombiCODER series, which has been a staple in the rail industry for years, now features an innovative addition focused on gearbox health assessment.

This latest version of the CombiCODER integrates sensors that track speed, vibration, shock, and temperature within a modular housing specifically crafted for gearbox applications. Not onyl does it provide analog readings for vibration levels, but it also outputs speed signals. This dual functionality enables users to analyze essential and harmonic frequencies to spot any irregularities in gearbox performance.

The beauty of this new design is that instead of needing multiple sensors—typically three or four—only one compact unit is required for installation within the transmission system. Its design mirrors that of standard speed sensors to facilitate straightforward setup.

Even though the installation location remains consistent with previous models, Lenord+Bauer highlights that this sensor can capture acceleration data across three axes along with temperature readings. This advancement aims to enhance remote condition monitoring’s efficiency and reliability while reducing costs and minimizing downtime for rolling stock operations.
