The event featured lively performances and speeches, creating an atmosphere rich in regional pride and setting the tone for two days of engaging discussions centered on innovation, resilience, and teamwork.
Tom Owen, Director of Cargo at Cathay Cargo, opened the session by emphasizing hong Kong’s crucial role in global trade: “Hong Kong serves as a key hub within this regional growth engine, utilizing its integrated infrastructure alongside other cities in the greater Bay Area.”
He also shared insights into Cathay’s future plans: “We’re adding over 100 cutting-edge aircraft to our fleet… This includes six new generation A350 freighters with options for an additional 20.”

The reaffirmation of Hong Kong’s global meaning
cissy Chan, Executive Director of Commercial at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), warmly welcomed attendees back to Hong Kong and expressed her thankfulness to TIACA for hosting the summit there. She underscored recent developments that have solidified HKIA’s status as the busiest cargo airport globally in 2024.
“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone here; your support has made HKIA once again the world’s busiest cargo airport this year,” she stated.
Chan highlighted significant infrastructure upgrades like fully operational three-runway systems and enhanced connectivity with the Greater Bay Area. “This allows us to broaden our service reach through an efficient intermodal transport network,” she noted.
The airport is also committed to digital transformation and business facilitation through initiatives such as the Hong Kong IA Data Community Platform and Skytopia project. “Our goal is to merge commercial activities with art and entertainment,” Chan added.
Pioneering leadership through connection
Citing his dual role as both sponsor and local leader, wilson Kwong—CEO of Hactl—expressed excitement about being part of such a pivotal gathering. “It’s thrilling as we are at one of the world’s busiest airports; this achievement stems from everyone’s collective efforts,” he remarked.
Kwong acknowledged collaboration among all stakeholders as vital while reflecting on industry shifts driven by evolving geopolitical landscapes and technological advancements: “We’re navigating fascinating changes influenced by these factors along with generational transitions.”
A bond forged through shared values
TICA chair Steven Polmans began his address expressing gratitude: “We are truly delighted as TIACA to convene here in Hong Kong… It’s an ideal place for reconnecting with old friends while making new connections.”
Pondering on recent events affecting their community—including a tragic incident involving Air India—Polmans emphasized human connections within their industry: “These moments remind us how deeply intertwined we are.”
