[By: North Star]
A recent publication by North Star highlights the company’s exciting move to new headquarters at Prime Four Business Park in Aberdeen. This strategic relocation underscores their commitment to long-term growth, especially in the offshore wind industry.
The shift from Queen’s Road to Kingswells, a hub for global energy services, marks a significant milestone as the company has seen a 20% rise in onshore staff over the past two years. The new space offers 50% more room and is designed with cutting-edge technology and collaborative workspaces that enhance dialogue across departments.
This open-plan office will accommodate all onshore personnel based in Aberdeen and house their round-the-clock safety-critical vessel operations control center. This hub is crucial for managing North star’s fleet of 42 emergency response and rescue vessels (ERRVs), wich are active around the clock at nearly 50 installations in the North Sea.
Established 138 years ago,North Star has transformed from its origins serving fisheries into a key player providing vital offshore support services. With six newly built service operation vessels (SOVs) aimed at Europe’s wind market included, they now operate a fleet of 48 vessels while managing over 900 port calls and facilitating around 7,000 offshore transfers each year.
The company’s expansion is driven by growing opportunities within renewable energy; since entering this sector last year, offshore wind has surged to represent 60% of their business portfolio. They have committed over £512 million towards next-generation hybrid SOVs as part of an ambitious plan to expand their fleet by an additional 40 vessels by 2040—backed by private equity firm Partners Group.
This move also follows substantial investments in digital transformation; they recently allocated more than £2 million towards implementing an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that integrates knowledge management and streamlines processes across all business areas for enhanced performance.
The Kingswells HQ complements recent upgrades made at their lowestoft office as well as establishing operations in Hamburg. Additionally, maria Olsson has been appointed Operations Coordinator to oversee SOV operations and client management projects there—further strengthening their European presence.
With over 1,400 employees both onshore and offshore, North Star stands poised for continued growth while delivering critical services essential for Europe’s evolving energy landscape well into the future.
