A truck driver recently struck gold while on the road in Maryland. According to a July 2 announcement from the Maryland Lottery, Clayton Webb—a long-haul trucker hailing from North Carolina—enjoys trying his luck at lottery games during his cross-state deliveries.
After completing a delivery in Silver Spring and spending the night there, he decided to stop by a nearby Wawa convenience store. With just $5 in hand, he opted for the Fast Play game called Double Win.
To his astonishment, he discovered that his ticket was worth $50,000! He simply folded it up and tucked it away in his pocket. “No need to play any more after that,” he quipped when asked about future tickets.
This win far surpassed his previous bests of $5,000 back home and $1,000 from Tennessee. Unsurprisingly, this made Maryland’s lottery his new favorite. “Well that’s an easy choice—Maryland!” he exclaimed when asked which state had the best lottery.
Webb claimed his prize on July 2 before embarking on a lengthy nine-hour drive back home where he had plans to replace an engine on his lawn mower—a timely win indeed as it had recently broken down. Now with some extra cash in hand for repairs on the tractor used for mowing over 52 acres of land!
