US Coast Guard to receive $25b in funding under President Trump's "big beautiful bill"
The coast guard said the package also strengthens its ability to counter drug and human trafficking, conduct search and rescue, enhance navigational safety and enable maritime trade.
Investment highlights include US$4.4 billion for shore infrastructure, training facilities and homeports; US$4.3 billion for polar security cutters for extending US reach in the Arctic; US$4.3 billion for nine new offshore patrol cutters; US$3.5 billion for three "Arctic security cutters"; US$1 billion for fast response cutters; US$816 million for light and medium icebreaking cutters; and US$162 million for three "waterways commerce cutters."
The coast guard said these investments support the Secretary of Homeland Security's comprehensive effort to modernise coast guard operations and capabilities.
