A 28-year-old South African Woman was stabbed several times onboard the Icon of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world, during an attack by a fellow South African crew member while the ship sailed through the Bahamas, the previous week.

The Royal Bahamas Police confirmed that the assault happened at 7:30 pm on Thursday.

The 35-year-old man stabbed the woman’s upper body during what authorities said was a personal dispute. He then attempted to flee by jumping overboard.

Emergency code ‘Oscar, Oscar, Oscar’, used to indicate a person overboard, was broadcast, prompting an immediate search and rescue response.

The man was then recovered from the waters but was unresponsive and declared dead by medical staff onboard.

The victim is now reported to be stable.

This happened while the cruise ship was coming to Miami after port calls in St. Maarten, the U.S Virgin Islands and the Bahamas.

The ship had left from Miami on July 19, 2025.
