

HD Hyundai and H-Line Shipping will together develop AI-powered autonomous and eco-friendly ship technologies to enhance vessel efficiency and decrease fuel consumption while supporting compliance with environmental regulations.
The MOU includes participation from HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), HD Hyundai Marine Solution, and Avikus, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai developing autonomous maritime technologies.
The group said that they will collaborate to integrate several digital systems supporting efficient vessel operations throughout the ship’s lifecycle, from its design to building the ship to its maintenance and performance.
This would entail combining Avikus’s autonomous navigation platform HiNAS, the OceanWise routing system from HD Hyundai Marine Solution, and HD KSOE’s cargo handling platform AI-CHS.
H-line will support the programme by offering an LNG carrier for sea trials.
Ho-Dong Seo, COO of H-Line Shipping, said that technology which ships cargo through the most optimal routes using AI is a major factor which determines a shipping company’s competitiveness.
