Container Ship Rolls Heavily In Rough Sea & Loses 50 Containers Off Peru

Ever Lunar Container Ship, operated by Taiwanese Shipping Company Evergreen Marine, lost around 50 containers in rough seas off the coast of Peru on Friday, August 1, 2025.

It began to roll heavily while being at anchor in Callao Bay, which led to a few containers at her stern to fall overboard.

The Port of Callao was closed while maritime authorities ordered that ship traffic in the bay be stopped to permit up-close inspections and salvage operations to be undertaken.

Local civil defence officials said that there is nothing to be worried about and assured that the cargo that fell from the ship did not contain any hazardous goods and that these would have been recovered with the help of tugs.

Authorities in Peru have started an investigation to identify the events which led to the accident.

This marks the second container-related accident involving an Evergreen Marine Ship in Latin American waters in less than a week.
