Norwegian Hydrogen AS has been offered a EUR 31.5 million grant from the EU Innovation Fund for its pioneering RjukanLH2 project, which will establish Norway’s first complete value chain for green liquid hydrogen (LH2) dedicated to maritime transport.

With RjukanLH2, Norwegian Hydrogen will build a new facility in Rjukan for the production, liquefaction, and storage of green hydrogen, as well as develop an integrated bunkering solution to supply zero-emission liquid hydrogen to the maritime sector. When operations commence in 2028, the facility will deliver more than 3,500 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, enabling emission reductions of up to 99.8% compared to fossil fuels.

The project represents an important milestone in Norway’s transition to a zero-emission energy system, establishing the foundation for a scalable value chain for liquid hydrogen that can expand in step with growing demand from the maritime sector. Once operational, RjukanLH2 will make a significant contribution to the decarbonization of shipping and strengthen Norway’s position as a leading player in green hydrogen production.
