LNT Felicity 8, a landing craft tank, ran aground in the waters amidst strong winds and powerful currents brought by the Super Typhoon Uwan, which battered the shore of Lemery, Batangas, on Sunday, per the Philippine Coast Guard reports.

The vessel was taking shelter in Pagapas Bay, Calatagan, Batangas, when worsening weather conditions caused it to drift towards shallow waters.

Personnel from the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Lemery, along with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, arrived at the location to assess the condition of the vessel.

They concluded that it had not suffered from any structural damage and all the crew members were safe. No oil spill or marine pollution was observed in the nearby waters.

The Coast Guard ordered the vessel’s operating company to deploy a tugboat to enable a safe towing operation.

An investigation was also launched to determine the circumstances of the grounding to assess compliance with safety and navigational protocols.
