

The Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) at East Port Said has inaugurated a major expansion valued at USD 500 million, significantly increasing its capacity and operations.
The opening ceremony was attended by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and marked the official completion of the project, which adds 2.2 million TEUs of annual handling capacity and raises SCCT’s total capacity to 7 million TEUs.
The upgrade includes 955 metres of additional quay and 510,000 square metres of new yard space. The expanded terminal is supported by 12 quay cranes, 30 electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes and more than 90 trucks. These additions are designed to enhance operational efficiency and meet growing regional transshipment demand.
APM Terminals has introduced electric RTGs to reduce emissions and continues to invest in battery-electric equipment, renewable energy and energy-efficient systems. These steps contribute to the company’s long-term goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
