The Danish Defence has chartered an ice-strengthened expedition vessel, Ocean Endeavour, to accommodate Danish and international soldiers taking part in Exercise Arctic Endurance in Greenland.
The move is intended to avoid putting extra pressure on Nuuk’s hotels during busy periods.
From early February, the ship will be berthed at Nuuk port, providing accommodation for soldiers while the exercise continues throughout 2026.
Danish authorities said the arrangement allows troops to live in suitable and familiar conditions without the need to build temporary facilities on land.
The vessel has been chartered from SunStone Maritime Group, the parent company of the SunStone Group.
Until late 2025, the Ocean Endeavour operated as a polar expedition ship, travelling in Arctic Canada, Greenland and Antarctica. Its ice-strengthened design allows it to operate safely in polar regions.
Since 2025, Denmark has increased its military presence in Greenland and the North Atlantic.
