

A gas leak caused a powerful explosion in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday, killing at least one person and injuring 14 others, Iranian state media reported.
The blast hit an eight-storey residential building on Moallem Boulevard, destroying two floors and damaging nearby vehicles and shops. Emergency teams rushed to the area as debris was scattered across the street.
Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency reported that the local fire department had identified a gas leak and the build-up of gas inside the building as the preliminary cause of the explosion.
The fire department chief said further details would be shared after additional investigations.
Earlier, Iran’s official IRNA news agency quoted Hormozgan province’s crisis management director, Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, as saying that the cause of the blast was still under investigation.
