U.S Navy’s 9200 Ton Destroyer & 3000-Ton Combat Ship To Undergo Modernisation

The U.S Navy has awarded two contracts worth $98 million to BAE Systems for modernising and upgrading the littoral combat ship USS Kansas City (LCS 22) and the guided missile destroyer USS Stockdale (DDG 106).

USS Kansas City will be drydocked, and the trimaran vessel will undergo hull preservation and an upgrade to its onboard systems.

Living spaces will also be refurbished for the comfort of the ship’s 41 crew members. The work will begin in May this year, per media reports.

The work schedule for USS Stockdale is also the same. Apart from hull preservation, the company’s Southern California shipyard will recondition its superstructure, its fuel and ballast tanks and modernise the living areas.

The USS Kansas City is the 12th ship of the Independence class of littoral combat ships. It is the 3rd U.S. Navy ship named after the biggest city in the state of Missouri.
