U.S Navy’s Largest Aircraft Carrier Reaches Crete For Repairs After Onboard Fire

USS Gerald R. Ford arrived at the Souda Bay Naval Base in Greece on Monday to undergo repairs after suffering from a laundry room fire on March 12, 2026, amidst its ongoing American offensive against Iran.

It experienced issues after reaching the Middle East, with the first being overflowing toilets, followed by fire in the laundry room, which injured 2 personnel and damaged 100 beds.

With Ford in Crete, the U.S Navy has just one carrier in the Middle East unless it sends another to take its place.

The Navy stated that, though undergoing repairs and maintenance, the USS Gerald R. Ford is ‘fully mission capable’.

Aircraft Carriers, Gerald R.Ford and the USS Abraham Lincoln played a pivotal role in the Trump administration’s war against Iran by housing several aircraft and thousands of service personnel involved in the campaign.

However, Sen. Mark Warner, the vice-chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, criticised Ford’s long deployment and called the fire ‘incredibly concerning.’
