Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted, among other matters, Chevron’s official interest

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted, among other matters, Chevron’s official interest in exploring for hydrocarbons south of Crete, in his regular weekly review on social media.

The announcement emphasized the significance of the American multinational’s decision to invest in Greece’s maritime areas. Mitsotakis noted that this reflects a clear recognition of Greece’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the region.

“The interest from Chevron is important because a leading American multinational chooses to invest in Greek maritime plots, thus practically recognizing Greece’s EEZ in the area,” the prime minister said. He further drew attention to Libya’s recent actions, which involved auctioning maritime plots in its own EEZ based on the median line, effectively respecting Greek sovereign rights.

This, as Mitsotakis pointed out, serves as “clear proof that Greece is exercising its sovereign rights in practice, despite the deliberate misinformation spread by some. It also demonstrates that Greece is recognized as an energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.”

Mitsotakis also addressed the increase in the minimum wage, which will rise to 880 euros starting on April 1. He explained that public sector wages would be adjusted as well, with an additional 30 euros per month, building on the 70-euro increase public employees
