The pace of tax filing in Greece has exceeded all expectations, just two weeks after the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) launched its electronic platform. More than half a million taxpayers have already pressed the submission button, marking a significant acceleration in the process.
As of March 29, a total of 549,973 tax returns had been filed, with more than half of these returns resulting in a zero balance, while approximately one in four taxpayers qualifying for a tax refund. This outcome has led to a substantial number of citizens receiving reimbursements.
For the first time, this year’s tax filing deadlines are strictly defined, with no extensions planned. Additionally, the AADE is expediting tax refunds through fast-track procedures. Taxpayers who submit their returns by April 30 will benefit from an increased tax discount of 4% if they opt for a lump-sum payment by July 31, 2025.
For those submitting after April 30, the discount will revert to the standard 3% applied in previous years, except for those filing within the final month of the deadline, from June 16 to July 15. These late filers will receive a reduced discount of 2% if they choose a lump-sum payment.
