More than 80,000 officers and non-commissioned officers (NCOs) in the Hellenic Armed Forces will see their total monthly earnings climb by 13 % to 20 % in 2025, Defence Minister Nikos Dendias confirmed on Monday.
The move aims to stem an exodus of experienced staff and make a military career more attractive to new recruits, says a report at MEGA.
The increases come in three stages:
• 1 April 2025 – flat €30 boost to basic pay
• 1 July 2025 – extra €100 on the special-conditions and hazard allowance
• 1 October 2025 – tiered salary rise of 13 %–20 % depending on rank and years of service
Sample gains illustrate the scale of the package. A newly commissioned second lieutenant will move from €1,485 to €1,780 a month, pocketing an extra €295 (+20 %) or €3,540 a year. A lieutenant commander with 18 years’ service will jump from €2,319 to €2,780 a month—€461 more each month and €5,532 over a year.
The pay deal adds to allowances introduced in recent years and will be backed by non-salary incentives now in the pipeline such as affordable housing projects for military families and a comprehensive overhaul of military hospitals.
