Twenty-one thousand Greek citizens had completed the process of issuing the new personal identification number (PIN) within the first hour of the platform opening up to the public on Tuesday, June 3.
The use of the new PIN marks the beginning of a gradual phase-out of the old identity card number, AMKA (social security number), and other identification numbers used in daily interactions with public services.
Citizens can now obtain their Personal Identification Number independently through the website myinfo.gov.gr, which is also accessible via pa.gov.gr. For those who do not take action, the number will be automatically assigned starting September 5.
To obtain the number, users must log in to the myinfo platform using their TaxisNet credentials and a second authentication factor (OTP), which is sent to the mobile phone number registered in the National Communication Registry (EMEP—emep.gov.gr).
The number can only be issued once, is unique to each individual, and remains unchanged. Starting on September 5, the number will be automatically assigned to all citizens who have not taken steps to obtain it themselves.
