Greek authorities have extended the deadline for submitting declarations about short-term, Airbnb-style rental properties until July 21.
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) released the relevant decision affecting private persons and legal entities managing or leasing short-term properties, who are compelled to declare and register their houses and apartments by Monday, July 21st.
While Greece has experienced an unprecedented boom in the short-term rental market (Airbnb), the impact on housing demand and costs has negatively affected locals who are finding it increasingly difficult to rent.
Last week, the Greek government said it was considering extending the duration of a regulation limiting the issuance of new permits for Airbnb-type short-term rentals in some areas in Athens to curb leasing costs and a shortage of housing in the capital.
The regulation limiting the issuance of new permits for Airbnb apartments took effect at the start of 2025 in three municipal districts in the Greek capital and was initially planned to expire at the end of the year.
