Unemployment in Greece fell to 8.1% in August 2025, down from a revised 9.7% in August 2024 and 8.3% in July 2025, according to data released by the Greek Statistic Authority (ELSTAT).

The number of unemployed stood at 383,788, marking a decline of 72,352 people compared with August 2024 (a drop of 15.9%) and 11,542 fewer than in July 2025 (down 2.9%).

By gender, the unemployment rate among women was 10.6%, compared with 11.8% a year earlier, while among men it fell to 6.1% from 8%.

Looking at age groups, unemployment among 15–24 year-olds rose to 19% from 17.2% in August 2024, while in the 25–74 age group it dropped to 7.5% from 9.3%.

The number of employed reached 4,337,315, up by 79,288 people year-on-year (+1.9%), but slightly lower than in July 2025 by 2,331 people (-0.1%).

Meanwhile, the number of people under 75 years old who are outside the labor force – those neither working nor actively seeking work – totaled 3,025,161. This represents a decrease of 35,078 compared with August 2024 (-1.1%), but an increase of 11,556 from July 2025 (+0.4%).
