The traffic restriction zone (Daktylios) in the center of Athens will take effect
The traffic restriction zone (Daktylios) in the center of Athens will take effect on Monday, October 20, after a relevant government gazette was published on Friday.
According to the law, the restrictive vehicular zone will remain in force until July 10, 2026. The hours and days of enforcement are from Monday to Thursday between 07:00 am and 20:00 pm, and Friday: 07:00 am until 15:00 pm.
The traffic restrictions apply within the central area of Athens, bounded by the following avenues and streets: Leoforos Alexandras–Zacharof–Leoforos Mesogeion–Feidippidou–Michalakopoulou–Spyrou Merkouri–Vryaxidos–Ymittou–Ilias Iliou–Andrea Frantzi–Leoforos Andrea Syngrou–Chamosternas–Peiraios–Iera Odos–Leoforos Konstantinoupoleos–Achilleos–Plateia Karaiskaki–Karolou–Marni–28is Oktovriou (Patision)–Leoforos Alexandras.
No restrictions apply on weekends, public holidays, and days of strikes on public transport: no restrictions apply.
Exemptions
Vehicles with special permits issued by the Attica Traffic Directorate are exempt from the restrictions, as stated in a Joint Ministerial Decision.
Drivers can obtain an exemption permit through the gov.gr digital platform, either in printed or electronic form.
Specifically, exemptions apply to:
- Fully electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles, as well as vehicles powered by natural gas or LPG.
- EURO 6 vehicles (other than those above) with CO₂ emissions under 120g/km (NEDC), registered up to 31.12.2020.
- EURO 6 vehicles with CO₂ emissions under 145 g/km (WLTP),
