Greece’s tourism industry continues to speed ahead, maintaining the impressive momentum

Greece’s tourism industry continues to speed ahead, maintaining the impressive momentum of last year. Travel receipts and visitor numbers surged again in the first eight months of 2025, according to new data from the Bank of Greece, while market research points to a longer tourist season ahead. Greece now ranks among the top six destinations Europeans plan to visit over the next five months.

Big Spenders: Americans on Top

American visitors remain the most generous travelers by far, spending an average of 1,080 euros per trip between Jan. and Aug. 2025 — the highest among all markets. They are followed by visitors from the United Kingdom, who spent an average of 758 euros, and travelers from the eurozone: the French (718 euros), the Germans (677 euros), and the Italians (624 euros).

Overall, average spending per trip rose 7.2% year-on-year to 613 euros, compared to 572 euros in 2024 and 628 euros in 2023.

Rising Visitor Numbers

Incoming travel to Greece increased by 4.1% in the Jan–Aug. period. Arrivals from EU countries were up marginally by 0.2%, while arrivals from non-EU destinations jumped by 10.4%, underscoring the growing appeal of Greece beyond its traditional European markets.
