The Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP) will remain a public entity, with the Greek State maintaining control of 51% of its shares, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis assured during the ceremony celebrating the company’s 100th anniversary at the Goulandris Natural History Museum.
The Prime Minister emphasized that EYDAP “is intertwined with the history of the Greek state and the water supply of the capital,” noting that the current government “restored its shares from the Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participations (HCAP) to state control in 2016.” He underlined, “EYDAP belongs 51% to the Greek State, and this will not change,” adding that water “remains a supreme public good.”
Reflecting on the company’s legacy, Mitsotakis stated, “We recognize the great weight of responsibility when leaders of previous generations made crucial decisions to ensure that water remained sufficient, high-quality, and affordable. The decisions announced today are of great importance for the coming years for this company, which, I repeat, belongs 51% to the Greek State, and that will not change. I remind you that in 2016, EYDAP’s shares ended up under HCAP, and with the decision of this government, they returned to the Greek State, where they will remain.”
