Greek Energy Minister on Fox: Greece Becomes Gateway for U.S. LNG

Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou put the spotlight

Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou put the spotlight squarely on Greece’s expanding strategic clout in global energy during an interview with Varney & Co. on Fox Business, underscoring how “from the Aegean to the Atlantic, energy is reshaping the geopolitical architecture — and Greece is the central pillar of this new design.”

Pressed by host Stuart Varney on whether Greece is poised to become Europe’s main entry point for U.S. LNG, Papastavrou was unequivocal. Greece, he said, is already positioned at the heart of this emerging energy map.

What Was Discussed in Washington

Papastavrou revealed that in his meeting with U.S. Interior Secretary and Chair of the American Energy Sovereignty Council Doug Burgum, the two sides examined detailed plans to fully wean Europe off Russian gas and replace it with American LNG.

“This transition is happening through Greece,” he emphasized, citing the country’s strong infrastructure — the Revithoussa terminal and the Alexandroupolis FSRU — its ideal geography at the crossroads of three continents, its robust economy, and its political stability. All of these factors, he said, make Greece “the gateway for American LNG into Central Europe.”
