As the powerful storm “Βyron” sweeps across Greece, food-delivery platform efood has suspended operations nationwide, following an advisory from the Ministry of Labor urging enhanced worker safety during the severe weather.

In its announcement, the company stressed that the safety of its couriers is its “top priority,” adding that it ceased accepting orders immediately upon receiving the ministry’s official guidance.

On Thursday, Dec. 4, the Ministry of Labor issued a broad advisory outlining mandatory protective measures for employees in regions expected to be hit hard by the storm, according to the latest Emergency Weather Bulletin from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service.

Employers in affected areas are reminded of their legal duty to safeguard staff and avoid exposing them to unnecessary risk, especially those working outdoors.

The ministry placed particular emphasis on businesses employing delivery workers — including digital platforms — in food service and other transport or courier activities using two-wheeled vehicles.

Beyond providing essential protective gear such as helmets, gloves and waterproof clothing, employers are required to halt operations when extreme weather conditions make work dangerous.

More broadly, the ministry strongly recommends that private companies adopt remote-work arrangements wherever feasible, in order to limit exposure
