Attica recorded the highest number of overnight stays booked through short-term rental platforms in Greece during the second quarter of 2025, according to Eurostat data released on Thursday, Jan. 8, covering the entire European Union.
Based on the figures, Attica was followed by the South Aegean and Crete, which ranked second and third respectively. More specifically, overnight stays in Attica via platforms such as Airbnb, Booking and Expedia exceeded 3 million, reaching 3,012,228. The South Aegean recorded 2,388,536 overnight stays, marginally ahead of Crete, which posted an almost identical figure.
The Ionian Islands ranked fourth with 2,222,822 overnight stays, while Central Macedonia followed in fifth place at a considerable distance, with 1,482,214 stays.
Andalusia Tops Europe
At the European level, the most popular region for short-term rentals during the same period was Andalusia in Spain, with 13.3 million overnight stays. It was followed by Croatia’s Adriatic region (Jadranska Hrvatska) with 9.6 million and France’s Île-de-France with 9 million.
Notably, the 20 most popular tourist regions in the EU were concentrated in just five countries: six regions each in Spain and France, five in Italy, two in Portugal and one in Croatia.
