Anew housing program set to launch in Greece in the first five months of 2026 will offer beneficiaries subsidies of up to 90% on renovation works, with grants reaching as much as 27,000 euros, according to the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs, Domna Michailidou, speaking on 8 Jan.
Reviewing the rent rebate scheme that benefited around one million Greeks, the minister noted that the overwhelming majority of recipients were single-person households and young people—groups that remain at the core of the government’s housing policy.
Referring to the “My Home 1” and “My Home 2” programs, Michailidou said that approximately 21,000 young people have already purchased their own homes, paying monthly instalments lower than the rent they would otherwise have paid.
She also outlined the main features of a new 400 million euros housing initiative aimed at bringing vacant properties back into use. Under the scheme, beneficiaries will be eligible for subsidies covering up to 90% of renovation costs, with support of up to 30,000 euros in total, or 300 euros per square meter. The focus will be on renovating closed homes, alongside limited energy-efficiency upgrades.
