Apowerful explosion triggered a large-scale fire early Monday at a well-known cookie manufacturing plant in central Greece, killing at least four workers and injuring multiple others.

At the time of the explosion, a dozen employees were inside the facility, according to initial reports. Three women were injured and transported to the regional hospital for treatment, while four male workers escaped without injuries. Five women were initially reported missing. The charred bodies of four of them have since been recovered while hopes of finding the last woman alive are diminishing.

A firefighter was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The blast occurred shortly before 4 a.m. at the factory, which operates around the clock, and was followed by an intense fire that quickly engulfed part of the building. The explosion was reportedly heard across nearby towns and surrounding villages, highlighting its force.

Workers Injured, Others Missing
Public broadcaster reports later cited slightly different figures, stating that 13 employees were working at the time and that eight people in total were injured and transferred to hospitals. Authorities have not yet clarified the discrepancy, as rescue operations remain ongoing.
