As of the Greek-Egyptian plan to move forward in the critical field of energy, Energy and Environment Minister Theodoros Skylakakis signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources Karim Badawi during the former’s two-day visit to Cairo.
The signing of the MoU, which took place at the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2025), aims to advance the two countries’ cooperation concerning Carbon capture and storage (CCS).
As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Greece and Egypt recognize the importance of cooperation in facilitating the exchange of expertise in the field of CCS/CCUS (Carbon Capture and Storage/Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage). They also acknowledge the need for coordinated efforts toward the potential development of CCS/CCUS facilities and storage sites—an advancement that will contribute to achieving climate goals and the energy transition.
The two delegations agreed to establish a high-level Greek-Egyptian bilateral committee to oversee the progress while supporting the targets defined in the MoU.
The Hellenic Hydrocarbon Resources Management and Energy Resources S.A. (HEREMA) will coordinate efforts, facilitating the work of joint task forces that will be set up, ensuring compliance with agreed priorities and timelines.
