Hong Kong completes its first biofuel bunkering operation

Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-Chemical Co. (CPN), in partnership with Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), carried out Hong Kong’s first B30 marine biofuel bunkering operation on 7 May.

As announced, the operation involved supplying an OOCL-operated containership with ISCC-EU certified B30 marine biofuel, which contains 30% biodiesel.

This follows the recent approval by the IMO’s MEPC 83, allowing conventional bunker tankers to carry biofuel blends of up to 30%.

The use of B30 fuel represents a significant step forward in reducing carbon emissions compared to previous B24 blends, contributing to more sustainable maritime operations.

For OOCL, this marks its first use of B30 biofuel in Hong Kong and reinforces the company’s commitment to its broader decarbonisation strategy.
