Port of Rotterdam and EDGE to cooperate on liquid hydrogen
During the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam (20-22 May), the Port of Rotterdam Authority and EDGE Navigation signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to cooperate on the development of liquid hydrogen infrastructure for the maritime sector.
As announced, the companies formalized their cooperation by signing a Letter Of Intent during the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam held on 20-22 May, with both parties expressing their ambition to further develop Rotterdam as an international hub for maritime decarbonisation.
EDGE Navigation is currently developing a series of commercial cargo ships powered by liquid hydrogen (LH2), as well as an LH2 tanker that can be used for import to Northwest Europe and ship-to-ship bunkering. Furthermore, the parties aim to jointly gain insight into the necessary policies, procedures and regulations for the import of liquid hydrogen from ship-to-shore and for ship-to-ship delivery.
The cooperation also seeks to prepare the port of Rotterdam for the arrival of EDGE’s LH2 ships, which are expected to enter service from 2028.
