Three firms will be able to start supplying methanol as a marine fuel from next year at the world’s largest bunkering

Three firms will be able to start supplying methanol as a marine fuel from next year at the world’s largest bunkering hub.

PetroChina International (Singapore), Global Energy Trading, and Golden Island will be awarded licences by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to supply methanol as marine fuel in the Port of Singapore from January 1, 2026.

MPA said the three companies were selected from a total of 13 applicants following the call for applications launched in March 2025.

In accordance with the authority, the strong interest reflects the sector’s growing focus on lower-emission marine fuels.
