PIL names fourth 14,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship

Pacific International Lines (PIL) announced the naming of its fourth 14,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessel.

The boxship was named Kota Embun and was christened by Evelyn Ng, wife of Ng Kee Choe, Deputy Chairman of PIL, during a ceremony at Shanghai’s Jiangnan Shipyard.

Derived from the Malay word for “dew,” Embun symbolizes renewal and harmony with nature, reflecting PIL’s commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly shipping.

Part of PIL’s “E” Class series, these 14,000 TEU vessels are the largest in its fleet and the first to run on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Kota Embun is also the first PIL vessel to feature a bow windshield, enhancing aerodynamics and improving fuel efficiency, with an expected 1% annual reduction in fuel consumption and emissions on the Far East to West Coast Central and South America Service 2 route.

Since 2022, PIL has ordered 18 newbuild vessels, including four 14,000 TEU ships and additional 8,000 TEU, 9,000 TEU, and 13,000 TEU vessels.
