APM Terminals Lázaro Cárdenas receives six new electric cranes

APM Terminals Lázaro Cárdenas has received six cutting-edge electric automated rail-mounted gantry cranes, marking a significant step forward in modernizing Mexico’s logistics infrastructure.

These cranes deliver enhanced efficiency, greater operational safety, and zero direct emissions, an important achievement as the terminal prepares for its Phase II expansion set to launch in 2026.

To date, APM Terminals has invested US$165 million in this expansion.

Beatriz Yera, Managing Director of APM Terminals Mexico, highlighted that this investment reflects the company’s long-term vision of building smart, efficient, and sustainable ports ready for global trade.

Phase II of the terminal’s development includes a 65-hectare expansion that will double its annual handling capacity to 2.2 million TEUs.

Highlights of the upgrade include: six electric ARMG cranes, 14 hybrid shuttle carriers, four high-capacity empty container handlers, and a new infrastructure block.

The expansion also includes comprehensive technical training for all operational staff, ensuring best practices aligned with international standards.

Through this major upgrade, APM Terminals is not only advancing the port’s infrastructure but also driving economic growth, job creation, and decarbonization efforts.
