Port of Gothenburg signs agreement with Inter Terminals

The Port of Gothenburg has entered into a 25-year agreement with Inter Terminals Sweden, one of its largest energy sector clients.
This deal is set to enhance long-term stability and predictability, fostering an environment conducive to additional investments in the ongoing energy transition of both parties’ operations.
On July 1, the two parties finalized lease agreements for both above-ground areas and underground rock caverns, alongside a cargo port dues agreement based on traffic and volume. These agreements outline the compensation due to the port authority for Inter Terminals Sweden’s use of its land, facilities, and infrastructure.
Göran Eriksson, CEO of the Port of Gothenburg, stated this agreement offers a long-term stability and predictability, providing a strong foundation for developing an energy port of the future focused on transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable products.
Inter Terminals Sweden is increasingly involved in biofuels such as HVO and methanol. The company has operated in the Port of Gothenburg since 1964 and is the third-largest energy customer at the port.
Johan Zettergren, Managing Director of Inter Terminals Sweden added that with the longer lease terms and a clearer, more predictable cost structure, they’re better positioned to expand whether that’s by converting existing tanks or building new ones for renewable materials, or investing in new technology and expanding the green portfolio.
