NWSA drive nearly $55 billion in economic activity

A new economic impact report confirms that the Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA), the Port of Seattle, and the Port of Tacoma remain vital engines of economic growth for the region and the state. In 2023 alone, the three organizations collectively supported more than 265,000 jobs, contributing $17.7 billion in wages and benefits and generating nearly $55 billion in total business output.

The findings mark the first time a regional analysis has combined data across all lines of business at the Seattle-Tacoma gateway, including marine cargo, aviation, real estate, commercial fishing, and cruise operations, offering a full picture of the ports’ far-reaching economic impact.

Leaders from the NWSA and the ports highlighted the importance of continued investment and collaboration to ensure the long-term vitality of the gateway. The ports play a critical role not only in global trade but in supporting families and communities throughout the Pacific Northwest.
