Descartes Systems Group announced the launch of a security system

Descartes has announced the launch of Descartes MacroPoint FraudGuard 2.0 an advanced solution aimed at combating increasingly complex freight fraud and cargo theft schemes.

This latest release enhances security for shippers, freight brokers, and third-party logistics providers by introducing new pre-tender, pre-pickup, and in-transit monitoring capabilities.

The updated system empowers companies to maintain a high-performing and compliant carrier network, make more reliable operational decisions, and detect threats such as identity fraud and double brokering reducing risks related to insurance, liability, and reputation.

Tore Giannone, Director of Operations at Circle Logistics, noted that automated alerts and comprehensive insights have not only minimized manual tasks but also allowed the proactive detection and stop various fraud attempts.

FraudGuard 2.0 builds on Descartes MacroPoint’s extensive visibility platform by leveraging both historical and real-time freight data, automated monitoring during transit, and instant risk alerts.

Users can assess carrier and driver legitimacy without slowing down load assignments, drawing on unmatched freight tracking history from Descartes’ database.

The system scans for 16 critical in-transit risk indicators to detect and notify users of potential fraud or suspicious behavior, ensuring stronger protection across the shipment lifecycle.

Robert Derin, Director of Product at Descartes, also added that with the new alerting tools and lookup features, customers can better protect their cargo, reduce fraud-related costs, and maintain a strong brand reputation.

The features of the system include:

  • Carrier and Driver Lookup Tool:
Users can access detailed performance and risk profiles using DOT numbers or phone numbers, including active tracking status, load volumes, and past fraud indicators supporting smarter load planning and carrier selection.

  • Carrier Insights and Alerts:
Custom alerts flag suspicious or newly added carriers and drivers, including those using VoIP numbers or exhibiting unusual activity like accepting excessive loads or prior spoofing attempts. These insights help block high-risk parties before load details are shared.

  • In-Transit Risk Monitoring:
The system continuously monitors shipments from pre-pickup through delivery for red flags such as GPS/IP spoofing, route anomalies, improbable travel times, and irregular stops, providing real-time alerts to help prevent theft or tampering.
