Flinders Port Holdings announces $350 million investment

Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal (FACT) is poised for a major transformation with an investment exceeding $350 million to boost its capacity and operational efficiency. Flinders Port Holdings (FPH) has launched the GatewaySA Program of Works, a dedicated initiative set to oversee the planning and execution of upgrades over the next three years.
“The GatewaySA Program of Works represents a major sustaining capital upgrade for FACT, which has been the only container terminal in South Australia since its opening in 1978,” said Trent Kolbig, General Manager of FACT.
Key projects under the program include the purchase of two additional Super Post Panamax Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, IT system upgrades covering the Terminal Operating System (TOS), Depot Operating System (DOS), and Vehicle Booking System (VBS), as well as improvements to terminal access with upgraded gate technology.
Other works involve expanding the Empty Container Depot, site-wide infrastructure enhancements, and an extension and remediation of Berth 6.
With the 135-metre extension of Berth 6 and the new cranes, FACT will be able to service two 366-meter vessels simultaneously, strengthening its appeal to shipping lines and supporting larger vessel traffic.
FPH has engaged McConnell Dowell under an Early Contractor Involvement model for the berth works, with onsite construction expected to begin in Q3 2025 and finish by late 2026. The new STS cranes are scheduled for delivery in Q1 2027.
