What could be the impact of the new round of volatility in the Red Sea?

The Red Sea once again is slipping into volatility after Houthi renewed their attacks on commercial vessels, an indicator that the militant group still maintains its operational capabilities despite continuous strikes from the US and Israeli forces.

According to new Jefferies figures, overall Suez Canal transits in the first half of 2025 are down 55% compared with 2023. The headline numbers mask an even sharper collapse where it hurts most: containership passages have plunged 90%, LNG carriers 80% and LPG carriers 72%.
