Fincantieri Marine Group appoints new CEO

Fincantieri Marine Group (FMG), the U.S. subsidiary of global shipbuilding leader Fincantieri, has named George A. Moutafis as its new Chief Executive Officer.

The appointment comes comes at a pivotal time for U.S. shipbuilding, as national priorities shift toward reinforcing domestic naval capabilities. FMG’s decision to bring in a seasoned American executive reflects the company’s continued commitment to the U.S. defense sector and its strategic role in supporting the Navy’s evolving needs.

Moutafis brings over 25 years of executive experience across defense, manufacturing, and industrial transformation. He most recently served as COO and General Manager of Beretta USA Corp. and has previously held leadership roles within FMG, where he contributed to innovation and program delivery for key U.S. Navy platforms. His expertise in strategic planning, program management, and financial operations is seen as a strong fit for the Group’s forward-looking goals in a shifting industrial and geopolitical landscape.

Fincantieri has maintained a presence in the United States for more than 15 years, operating four shipyards and employing around 3,000 people. The Group has invested over $800 million in its U.S. operations, with a significant share directed toward expanding and upgrading its Marinette facility in Wisconsin.
