Eimskip sells vessel Lagarfoss

Eimskip has announced the sale of its container vessel Lagarfoss, a ship that’s been a core part of the company’s fleet for over a decade. Built in 2014 in China and custom-designed for Eimskip’s North Atlantic routes, Lagarfoss is being sold to Grupo Sousa, the Portuguese parent company of GS Lines.

The vessel is expected to be delivered to a new owner in Reykjavík, during the period of August to September. The sale is subject to standard conditions for vessel sale and purchase.

Eimskip will record an estimated EUR 3.4 million loss on the sale in Q3 2025, as the sale price came in below the vessel’s book value. The decision to part with Lagarfoss is tied to current strong demand for second-hand tonnage and ongoing adjustments to Eimskip’s sailing system.

With this sale, the company’s fleet will shrink by one vessel, at least for now. Eimskip says it aims to offer employment opportunities to the Lagarfoss crew on other vessels within its fleet.
